Chiropractic Care Brampton

If you are in pain, are stiff or have a restricted range of movement, it is worth considering chiropractic care. For over a hundred years, chiropractors have been helping people with these issues by correcting the alignment of their musculoskeletal system.

We offer this type of treatment at our Activa Clinics. Over many years, we have seen patients suffering from knee, shoulder, back, foot, hand and other types of pain gain considerable relief. Once pain levels have dropped, they have been able to take advantage of other forms of physical therapy. Treatments that have enabled them to release tension that has been building up for years and work to strengthen their body. Many have been able to stop the problems they originally came to us with from coming back by taking advantage of the multi-disciplinary approach that we offer.

What is Chiropractic Care?

The early techniques used in chiropractic care were developed in the late 1800s by D.D Palmer. He realized that the misalignment of the musculoskeletal system had the potential to cause areas of the body to malfunction. DD Palmer believed that when the spine, in particular, is not in the correct position it becomes difficult for the nervous system to function efficiently. Without the proper signals, the body can no longer operate as designed. A misalignment in one area of the musculoskeletal system can lead to another area being put under more strain. This can cause damage to the muscles, ligaments, tendons, and bones as they struggle to compensate and perform in a way that they were not designed for.

Over the decades, since DD Palmer started the chiropractic care movement, new approaches have been investigated and honed. At Activa Clinics we use several approaches in tandem. All of them already have a good track record. We find that combining several techniques, sometimes with other forms of physical therapy, is better at producing long-term improvements.

During your initial chiropractic care consultation, we spend time talking about all aspects of your health. This helps us to understand what may be going wrong with your body. Often symptoms that seem unrelated to a spine or neck misalignment will actually turn out to be relevant.

We will then examine you physically. Possibly asking you to move in certain ways while we observe or feel what is going on as you do so. This provides us with even more information. Armed with what you have told us and what we have observed and felt we will then put together a tailored treatment plan for you.

What Can Chiropractic Care be Used to Treat?

The range of conditions chiropractic care is typically used to treat is still growing. We have helped patients with the following types of pain to gain relief:

  • Shoulder pain – the shoulder is an extremely complex joint. At that point in your body, 3 bones come together and are held in place by multiple muscles, ligaments, and tendons. If you use your arms a lot in a certain way, things can easily get out of balance, which leads to long-term movement issues and pain. That is why a lot of sports players who throw or use a racquet suffer from shoulder pain. Factory workers do too. A chiropractor will gently re-stretch things out, to release the tension and give you a series of tailored exercises to solve the underlying problem and stop your shoulder pain from coming back.
  • Back pain – chiropractic has repeatedly been proven to be an effective way to treat back pain. In particular, the lower back pain that around 80% of adults will suffer from at some point in their life. Releasing tension helps to improve the mobility of the spine. If the bones are misaligned one of our chiropractors will gently manipulate them back into place for you. Allowing the body’s signals to flow freely once again and relieving pain.
  • Knee pain – sometimes a misaligned spine can be the underlying or contributing cause of knee pain. If the symmetry of your torso is not correct, you will end up walking in a lop-sided fashion. Usually, you will be just a tiny bit out of balance, so may not even notice this. Over time, though this puts unnatural pressure on your hips, knees and ankles and they can start to become slightly misaligned too. Putting the spine back into position breaks this negative cycle. There are also two chiropractic alignment adjustments that can be applied in isolation to straighten the knee joint when it is appropriate to do so.

When Can I Expect to See Results?

How quickly you will start to notice improvements after starting chiropractic will vary. For some conditions, the feeling of relief is almost instant. With others, you may have to wait for weeks before you start to really notice the difference. Unfortunately, the more complex your musculoskeletal problems are the longer you will normally need to wait to experience full relief. But most people start to feel better within a week or two of treatment commencing.

We Offer Chiropractic Treatment Plans

We aim to provide you with relief as quickly as possible. But we want that relief to be long-lasting rather than fleeting. That is the primary aim of the custom treatment plans we come up with for each of our clients.

When tailoring a course of therapy for you we will consider your current level of fitness, how you live your life, your medical conditions and how often you can come in to see us for treatment. We will put together a realistic treatment plan that not only relieves your pain but will also reduce the risk of it coming back again.

What Do Chiropractic Adjustments Do?
Chiropractic adjustments re-align the musculoskeletal systems. Usually, it is the position of the joints that is adjusted. Because the tendons and ligaments are attached to the bones, they too are realigned. This, in turn, returns muscles, veins, and nerves to proper alignment. Bringing the body back into alignment improves the flow of nerve signals, blood and nutrients making it easier to stay healthy.
What to Expect at First Chiropractic Visit?
During your first chiropractic visit, your chiropractor will discuss the symptoms you are suffering from. As well as ask about past and present health conditions. How physically active you are will also be discussed. The chiropractor will carry out some simple manual tests to assess the current condition of your musculoskeletal system. They may make a few small adjustments during that first visit.
Can Chiropractic Help Herniated Disc in Back?
In many cases, a chiropractic practitioner will be able to relieve some of the pain you are suffering from if you have a herniated disc. But they will not be able to fix the herniation. Even with the help of a chiropractor, you may still need to have surgery eventually. But, provided the pain relief you get from chiropractic treatments is effective enough, surgery can be greatly delayed.
