Home Treatment Orthotics

Orthotics is concerned with the alleviation and management of physiological conditions that cause discomfort in your feet, ankles, wrists, knee, toes, and heels. The premise of this medical specialty lies in understanding the functioning of these three vital body parts. For instance, your feet, ankles, heels, and toes bear the weight of the rest of your body when you stand, sit, bend, walk, jog, run or lean on a wall or other immovable surface.

Due to natural wear and tear, this daily strain begins to adversely impact the bones, tendons, muscles, and other tissues. As a consequence, you begin to experience an array of disconcerting symptoms, including intermittent or chronic pain, numbness, tingling, and sensations in these body parts with time.

Furthermore, several other factors can accelerate or aggravate the level of discomfort you are forced to endure daily.

These complicating lifestyle-related factors include: –

  •     Excessive body weight
  •     Bad sitting/walking/standing posture
  •     High heeled shoes
  •     Ill-fitting footwear
  •     Strenuous physical activity and myriad other aggravators

You should note that routine lifestyle habits can also lead to chronic discomfort in your upper limbs.

The next section looks at how Orthotics can help you manage several common musculoskeletal problems in the limbs, legs, and back.

The most straightforward indicator that you need Orthotics treatment is mild to severe discomfort affecting muscles, nerves, tendons, and bones, around critical joints.

Parts of your body that can manifest discomfort warranting orthotic treatment include: -

Moving your hand induces pain in the bones at the wrist joint. You can develop this condition if your job entails engaging in repetitive hand motions for prolonged periods, such when typing, manning a busy workstation on a production line, and so forth.

Well known medical conditions that affect the wrist including Arthritis, Congenital Hand Defects, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, De Quervain's Tenosynovitis, and Dupuytren's Contracture.

Fortunately, Wrist Orthotic Braces can help you alleviate chronic or intermittent pain in one or both your wrists.

  1.  This ultra-comfortable thermoplastic splint immobilizes the wrist, fingers, and thumb,  drastically reducing your pain and discomfort.

You experience excruciating pain around either or both ankles whenever you exert pressure on the joint, making walking extremely difficult. Medical conditions known for causing ankle-related pain include Sprains, Peroneal Tendon Tears, Ankle Impingement, Subtalar instability, and Acute Ankle Stress Fractures.

Exerting the full or partial weight of your body on the heel induces mild to severe pain, such as when walking or standing. Heel pain is often linked to Plantar Fasciitis, a condition characterized by the inflammation of the fibrous tissues connecting the heel bone to the toes.

However,  other medical conditions can also cause heel pain, including Arthritis,  Stress Fractures, Tendonitis, and nerve irritation.

You can attain physical relief from heel pain while using Activa’s array of heel orthoses which work by reducing peak pressure when walking or standing

All or some of the toes in either one or both feet exhibit numbness or mild to severe pain when you exert pressure on them while walking. This condition often results from inadequate blood supply or nerve damage in the toes due to nerve compression.

Medical conditions known for causing toe numbness or pain include Bunions, Corns, Hammertoe, Morton’s Neuroma, and Synovitis.

Luckily, you can find relief from intermittent or chronic toe pain using Activa’s various shoe-installed toe orthoses. Activa’s toe orthoses are custom made which is why they are ideal for resolving your particular toe pain condition.

While there are toe and heel orthotics  that you install shoes when using them for pain relief,  these devices differ from orthopedic shoes in that they are essentially inserts.

Unlike orthopedic shoes, you can use Activas Orthotic shoe inserts in a variety of shoes, from the sneakers you wear while out with friends, to the oxfords you wear at the office. Learn more about our services!

How long you wear an Orthotic brace depends on the severity of your condition.

If your condition is chronic, i.e., due to a chronic medical condition, then you may have to wear your Activa Orthotic brace for as long as the condition lasts.

However, this does not mean you wear the Orthotic brace all the time, just when the level of pain or discomfort hinders you from engaging in routine activities, e.g., walking, jogging, and so forth.

On the other hand, an intermittent joint condition means you only wear your Activa Orthotic brace when you experience pain or discomfort, e.g.,  when cold weather or physical activity causes pain or discomfort to manifest.

Custom Designed Orthotics

Activa customizes the orthotic products sold to you to maximize the relief they offer with your particular condition.

Their Orthotic procedure begins with the creation of a 3D cast of your affected body part, i.e., ankle,  heel, toes, wrist, or knee.

Ultra Comfortable and Durable Orthotic Braces

Activa orthotic braces utilize soft breathable materials to ensure that you have maximum comfort while wearing the device. Furthermore,  Activaraces are reinforced with durable thermoplastic polymer or stainless steel strips to optimum support of affected joints.
